YES YES, always check YES!!
lesson learned.
a few months ago my friend and i booked a trip to san francisco. yes, this is the same long awaited, much anticipated, going to be the best time ever, trip to san francisco that i haven't been able to shut up about lately. she's always wanted to go, and i've been craving some california sunshine, and some good times with old -and new- friends.
well, shockingly, despite all of the perfection that i am known for, i missed a detail, and thought we were leaving on thursday, when in fact, we had booked our departing flight for friday night. of course we realized this randomly in target this evening, after i had already arranged for my friends, AND her friends to meet us friday afternoon for a baseball game. (red sox/giants WOO!)
so after a minor freakout in the book aisle, we make our way over to the patio furniture, plop ourselves down on some padded plastic bench, and proceed to call expedia. (by the way, if you can manage to book your trips on the days that you actually want to take them, i highly recommend expedia. major discounts. again, that is only if you know how to read a calendar...) my first call(yes we had to call more than once), went something like this...
me: uhh...i accidentally booked a trip for the 25th of june. we actually need to leave on the 24th...any way we can change that??
asian lady with a very thick accent so i could barely understand her: well, let me see...
silence...
silence..
more silence...
me: hello?
asian lady with a very thick accent so i could barely understand her: yes, i am checking, it will be 1 to 3 minutes please (yes she really said 1 to 3 minutes)
asian lady with a very thick accent so i could barely understand her: okay, , you purchased non refundable tickets, so you have two options, cancel the package for a 150 charge and rebookit, or just change the flight and it will still be $150 to make any changes to the package.
me: okay, so do you have any flights on the 24th? and what will the total be for the change?
alwavtasicbuh: well, you can't change the flight i reeeecommend that you cancel the whole package and rebook.
me: what! you just said i could adjust the flight!
...and then a whole lot of back and forth where i ask her to repeat herself a million times, (i thought she was saying TWO PM FLIGHTS but she was saying 12:15...WHAT?!??) and eventually she just tells me to cancel and rebook because she can't figure anything out.
dumbass!
after a bunch of pizza, some chugged beer to take the edge off,a lot of laughing, almost peeing my pants, and several more calls, we end up purchasing a bus ticket to connecticut, and a cheap flight out to sf from hartford.
pain in the ass!
but i guess eventually none of it will matter because in ten days i'll be partying with a bunch of people i love in one of my favorite cities ever!!
